What do I do now?
1 – Make sure you're logged in.
  • To use SemantiFind you need to be logged in. To do this click on the "SemantiFind Login" button in the SemantiFind toolbar.

  • SemantiFind will remember your login information each time you start your browser but if you choose to logout at any time (by selecting "Logout" from the "Options" menu in the toolbar) you will need to login again by clicking on the "SemantiFind Login" button.
2 – Start searching, just like you always have.
  • Start typing in the search bar of your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo!, MSN or Microsoft Live Search)... you'll get a drop down list that lets you choose the precise definition of the term you're typing in:

  • Enter as many terms as you like, selecting definitions as you go. If you can't find the term you want, just leave the term undefined – SemantiFind will try to sort that out later. Defined terms are underlined, undefined ones aren't:

  • Press enter, and you'll get both your search engine search results and results from SemantiFind.

  • In the SemantiFind results, you will see pages that have been added by the SemantiFind community. Once you and your friends begin adding (Semantifying) pages, these will also be included in the results and categorized so you can see who added them. The SemantiFind results will always match the exact meaning of the search terms that you specified.

  • Because SemantiFind understands synonyms, acronyms and abbreviations, you don't need to guess which search terms to use – for example, if your looking for something in New York City, you could use "NY", "New York", "NYC" or even "Big Apple" – they all mean the same thing to SemantiFind.

  • The usual search engine results are shown below the SemantiFind results. SemantiFind (optionally) grays out search results that don't match the meaning of the search terms you entered. This feature can be turned on and off from the "Settings" dialog under the "Options" menu.

3 – Semantify pages... your personal search engine.
  • When you find a web page you find interesting just click on the "Semantify with" button in the toolbar:

  • The page will be labeled with your defined search terms. Later, when you want to find that page again just type in one or more of the labels in your search engine and, presto, that page will be in your SemantiFind results.

  • If SemantiFind doesn't have any search terms to label a page with, or, if you want to change the labels that will be used, click on "Edit Labels" in the toolbar.

  • SemantiFind will automatically "Semantify" pages which you seem to show interest in (based on your activity) so that if you forget or if you are too absorbed in what you're doing you'll still get those pages in your results when you search next time.

4 – Just click to improve your search results for good
  • You can improve your search results by filtering and semantifying web pages directly from the search results page.

  • To preview a page in line, just click on the preview icon to the right of the page title

  • If it's a good result that you want to come back to sometime, you can Semantify the page directly from here by clicking on "Semantify with" at the bottom of the preview window. If, on the other hand, it's a poor result or doesn't match the meaning of your search terms, simply filter it out by clicking on . The result will gray out and all that will display is the title.

  • The next time you search using similar search terms, results you have filtered out will remain filtered out and results that you have Semantified will be added to your SemantiFind results.
That's it. Your personal search engine saves you time and finds more meaningful results and the SemantiFind community as a whole brings order and meaning to the web.
